I want to talk about kindness, I just think it's a topic that could be talked about a bit more often and could be more addressed. A lot of people are stressed out and have challenges dealing with emotions. And that's what's most important to practice: caring, empathy, love, kindness. But that's also the hardest to do. And here's the thing, it's like when it's the holidays, right? So at Christmas, you have family stress. You have finances, presents, sometimes traveling, and that is the most stressful time of year. And exercise is the number one way to reduce stress, but it's also the least amount of time people work out. It's kind of funny, but then we have summer as well. Most people, or a good number of people don't really work out in the summer because they are camping and traveling and spending time with family. So I was just comparing the two like we need to exercise to reduce stress right at the holidays.

It's the same thing right now as a good majority of our population is stressed out for whatever reason. It's an interesting paradigm and how that works because it's like they conflict. And I relate most things to food and exercise because that's what we do. But I mean, it's the same thing at the grocery store, right during the holidays when you should be eating healthier and cleaner because our stress is so high. That's when we go and we buy the pies and pastries and refined sugar, right?

So we have to kind of flip that around. We have to make better choices. And I think when it comes to understanding anger and frustration, like with friends or family members, it's something that most of us don't practice. It's not something you learn in school, it's not something that you could read books and learn about, but it's not something that we openly work on in practice, and I think that we'd be much better off if we did. But it's really that understanding of trying to put yourself in someone else's shoes, which is challenging, of course, but try to see the situation from someone else's perspective. Usually we have so much tunnel vision. It's all about me. It's like ego. Ego and superego, I think.

Today I'm going to talk about being on a movie set, and it was actually pretty cool. So what happened was they tell you at the very last minute and I don't know if that's because they're so busy or because of privacy reasons. But we actually applied to go to the one that they were filming in Didsbury.

All they said was, we are looking for extras, send in pictures, which is a bit odd because I feel like they're just looking for bodies like, I don't think it matters what you look like, although it would be flattering to believe or think that you got on because maybe you're good looking. But I think that's a stretch. I think they're just looking for bodies.

So you need someone that has a flexible job or doesn't have a job, someone that doesn't have kids or can bring their kids with them. And you need someone close enough and then you need someone that can sit there all day and do nothing.

It almost sounds prestigious, but it's not. And I'm only saying that because, and I don't mean like, it's really cool and it's unique and it's different and interesting. But I think that all they need is bodies and people to stand there, and to be a hundred percent honest with you, that's just my perspective. It could be wrong. I don't want to downplay it. It was definitely a cool experience.

But they did ask me, they said, well, you shave your mohawk, and I was like, Do I have to? And then they said, yes, it was filmed in the 80s, like 80s theme, so it wasn't too many people with mohawks. They don't let you wear any jewelry. So no jewelry of any kind for obvious reasons and people take their glasses off. It was really cool.

What was most interesting to me is I'll be on set and I'm watching the actors and watching the extras. I'm watching the film crew and it was really cool for me to see the behind the scenes and pay attention to every single detail. And that's what they do. And it sounds funny because earlier I was, I played professional sports and everyone wants to be in the limelight. Everyone wants to be the one. They want to be the star. Well, for me, the behind the scenes was way more interesting.

So let me tell you the process. This is my first experience. You have to do things a few times before you can feel the energy in the people, but here is what I can tell you about it.

It's the little things that we have to get excited about, because there's so much stress right now, so many people are in limbo. I feel like we have to find things to look forward to. We have to find things to get excited about and it doesn't matter what it is like, it could be the sun's coming out a bit earlier or the Sun staying up a bit later. Whatever it is, we have to go and we have to find that positivity. And I got a little secret that I'm going to share with you. It's not really a secret, but I'm looking at snowmobiles, so I have a motorcycle.

I usually post pictures in the summertime or in the spring. If I'm here I love to ride my motorcycle. I've been riding my bike for 20 years and I've never really thought about snowmobiles. I never really thought about snow because I'm a summer person. I like to go to the beach or like to get away from the snow. So I've been looking at snowmobiles and I've been talking to people about snowmobiles. But here's the thing, is that I don't like the winter. Like, I really dislike the winter, and I do just about anything to get away from the winter. So I understand that you have to give yourself something to look forward to, like we work all the time.

I'm a workaholic, I work from when I get up to when I go to sleep, but we all need hobbies and something like we like to go hiking. We actually made it a plan like consciously said once a week. Every week we're going to go away and get outside. We're going to go for a little hike or we're going to go for a walk, not just a little walk. We're going to drive somewhere because there's so many beautiful places around that we take for granted, and that's something that's been helpful to look forward to throughout the week. But we have to look forward to something.

So I was kind of messing around. I was like, Well, if I'm sticking around this this winter, I want something to look forward to. And it's still like, I don't have it yet. And the winter has been here for a couple of months here. So I'm still working on the snowmobile thing. But for me, some people like to turn their nose up and they're like, Oh, you don't have time for that? Or where are you going to take it? Or why would you do that? Just really odd. It has nothing to do with someone else. Do you know what I mean? Like, if you want to do something like if something excites you, then people should encourage you to do something. I feel instead of being like, Oh, looking for reasons why? That's not a good idea. It's terribly odd, but I think you have to be careful with who you share your excitement with.

You have to be careful who you share your goals with, who you share your new things with because people will put you down, and that's why people don't share goals. You got to share your goals. You gotta make it public. Friends can possibly put you down. But it's so odd to me, like it has nothing to do with them. They should be like, Go on that, go join that gym, go join that fitness group. Go like you should encourage them. But I feel like people feel like you're leaving them behind or you're doing things exciting and they're not doing anything exciting. There's a number of different reasons why people don't encourage you, but I think it's really sad when you and your friends or people that are supposed to be your friends don't try to encourage you. And I think we have to go out and find those types of people.

On this edition of Exploring Mind and Body, I wanted to open up some of my own Random Thoughts to you.

In this show I talk about business, how it's difficult to find people to help. They want something very specific or they're not going to do it. There's only so much you can do for your business.

How banks are basically stealing from you and how they charge hidden fees, even when they advertise a zero-fee product.

Shady stuff was going on with Amazon Alexa devices, they were basically stealing bandwidth to sell it to other clients.

How social media is regulating what you can or can't say.

What oils need to have in their ingredients to put a name on the label.

How to find a good quality coconut oil - what is MCT oil and the different chains of MCT oil. Which one is better for you.

Food industry and supplements industry: Are they concerned about our health? Why we have to always read ingredients.

And these kinds of things just happen right in front of us.

Hope you enjoy!

When it comes to reducing stress, there's no system in our body like all of our organs do. One of my favorite things about the body and how it's designed is how our bodies have a giant defense mechanism. So when you're doing weights, let's say you're doing curls, for example, your body puts a certain amount of stress on your biceps as you curl to help them grow back bigger next time. So if you put that same amount of stress on it, it'll be able to handle that same movement in motion.

Of course, many of us may know that you always want to change up your workouts and it's called muscle confusion so your body doesn't adapt and change which is called the plateau in the fitness world.

And you can stop seeing results, which is why we change your workouts up every time. They're always a different order or a different set or different exercise. And so because of that, we won't keep wanting to continue to change the different stresses we're putting in our body in a good way. So you could argue that you're putting stress on your heart and lungs, for example, when you're working out.

But that's good stress. This stress that we're talking about today isn't necessarily, well, certainly isn't good stress. So the defense mechanism of the body is, you know, when you work out your heart and lungs, for example, they get stronger. They are able to take on more stress than they are able to make your body healthier for a number of different reasons. But when we look at the different organs or different functions of our body, we don't have an actual pump. It's like our lymph nodes don't actually have a pump to help us detox out of our body. We have to do things like exercise or like I've read, those vibration machines work really well for that or bouncing on a trampoline like that would help clear out your lymph nodes, for example.

And you know, what's interesting is that your lymph nodes are in your brain, and when you sleep, those lymph nodes detox through your sleep. So that's pretty interesting too, at least for me. But what I'm saying is that when it comes to stress, there's nothing in our body, there's no organ or there's no function that will naturally reduce stress.

Like when we're breathing, you don't consciously breathe. You're not like, “Ok. Don't forget to breathe.” You may never get to. You may forget to take deep breaths, especially when you're stressed out. But there's nothing that says that in your brain, you have to continue to breathe. It's a natural function.

So when it comes to stress in our body, we don't have any natural function. We don't have any organ that's like, OK, that continues to pump or continues to work to reduce stress. So the problem is that we continue to raise our stress levels and then we get stressed out and then we lose our mind. And then all kinds of crazy things happen to our bodies while we're stressed out and we don't do anything to reduce that stress.

Chronic pain is something many deal with, much more than we know.

In fact, there's a good chance we'll all deal with chronic pain in one way or another.

Let's talk about how to prevent, how to treat and how to deal with what can be a debilitating experience.

In this show I also talk about participation awards, learning from failure and not understanding what it's like to go through life's ups and downs.

And finally hard work, one of my favourite topics. There is no substitute for hard work.

Hard work gives us more options, it makes us better people and prepares us for life especially going through hard work early on at a younger age.

As more and more people talk about buying early Christmas presents. I hope you consider local.

We have friends, neighbors, family members and people in our own communities doing everything they can to feed their families and put food on the table.

I hope you consider them before buying at the cheapest item you can find at the closest box store. Knowing full well those products are produced in a land far away made by people you’ll never meet, filing they pockets of people that will never know your name.

Consider all the time and effort it takes to run a business and make sure customers are happy.

Consider that the price may be a little more but you’re supporting customer service, you’re supporting better quality, a stronger local economy, you’re putting a smile on someone’s face whom you share schools with and grocery stores.

How amazing would it be if everyone committed to supporting local this year. What if every single one of us bought every single gift within their own community.

Even though we ship and many of our orders come from places further away, we’d fully support that.

And I think every other small and local business would feel the same way.

It does make a difference, your vote matters to each and every one of us that do our best to bring you quality products and services every single day. And we thank you for that.

10+ years in the game of life and business and Dorothy and I still celebrate, we still get excited and it still brings joy and happiness to our lives each time a new order comes in 💙🙏💙

This is a tough one to write about. When you run a public business sometimes it's hard to figure out what to keep personal and what to share with the world.

I've always felt it's important to lead by example.

Given that we teach health and wellness I feel like my health and wellness should always be optimal. I've had people say, 'what do you mean you can't do that, you're the fittest person I know?' Which makes me feel like people expect perfection but that could only be my perspective.

Over 2 years ago I was in a MVA, hit from behind (and the side) not going very fast at all. Since then my back has been giving me issues. I was going to physio and chiro and was at a point only 6 months ago where the pain and discomfort was almost completely gone.

This April, shortly after I came back from LA, I got a pinched nerve in my lower back which literally had me on my back for 3 or 4 days. I could hardly stand up let alone walk.

Some of you may remember when thankfully Dorothy filled in for live workouts on her own for 2 weeks at the end of April / beginning of May.

Since then it's been a continued struggle. The pain from my back shoots down my leg into my calf and runs to the top of my foot and finally makes my toes numb much of the day.

I feel like I've tried just about everything. Chiro, massage, acupuncture, cupping, rolling, stretching, thera gun, etc. Egoscue and even Eldoa exercises - along with focusing on anti-inflammatory foods (which is a usual thing but we've been putting more effort into this knowing food helps heal). I also ice multiple times a night before bed which helps me not wake up in the middle of the night with throbbing leg pain.

I'm not saying these don't help, they do. Very much. The odd day when I lose all ambition to do anything for my pain it's so much worse. But I would hope after doing these consistently the pain would be gone completely, not just a little bit.

Some days are harder than others. Some days mini depression rears its ugly head and I feel like I'll never get better. These are the worst days when I feel like my mental strength (which I'm usually very proud of) completely breaks down.

Some days I'm irritable and likely hard to be around. My greatest fear is that the people I love, those closest to me (like Dorothy) won't be treated the way they should when I'm in my most pain and discomfort and lash out for no reason. And I don't think it's a proper excuse to treat people badly when you're in pain or aren't feeling well.

Simple tasks like writing an email, answering a question or having a brief conversation is at times a challenge. It's like someone poking me with a needle, when my entire calf aches when I'm trying to focus on something else like a regular conversation. Or someone tapping you on your shoulder when you're trying to focus.

I should have mentioned at the beginning, I don't believe chronic pain is something we have to live with. I don't believe we should expect our health to decline as we age. And nothing is going to change my mind.

I'm committed to getting better and finding a way to do so. I may have watched every single youtube video on back pain, and herniated/bulging discs. I have talked to my doctor who mostly wants to do a bone scan, and mri (which takes a year to get) for the main goal of back surgery. For obvious reasons I'll avoid this at all costs but I'm also grateful we live in a world where surgery is a possibility when needed.

I'm not sure if I'm ready to share this publically, but I know many people struggle with pain. I know a couple people in this group who have their own struggles with pain and discomfort, which is why I wanted to share.

I wanted to let you know that you're not alone, and there are people that can relate. I'm not one to share these personal types of stories because I don't want sympathy and I certainly don't want anyone feeling sorry for me.

So far, what I've gotten most out of this experience (besides feeling like a back expert ;)) is it could be worse. It could be much worse.

The car accident could've been high speed and many other issues may have arised. I think of people like Max (Zach's employee) who is still in a hospital bed right now.

I notice people limping, I notice people with prosthetic legs now more than ever. And it makes me grateful to welcome the pain at times knowing there are people much worse off that may even be doing better than me on some days.

But there's light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like eventually the pain will go away, I feel like the days that I feel sorry for myself and think of all the things I haven't been able to do, especially in the summer like slackline, skateboard and surf (and even run down the beach) are less and less.

I change my focus to what I can do, I can walk, I can ride my bike, I can jump in the ocean and I can still workout with minimal limitations. These certainly help, and thinking about everything I'm grateful for may sound cliche but that helps as well.

I feel like there's a lesson in all experience of life, maybe I'm to learn more patience and understanding, maybe we'll be able to help more people in the future that deal with chronic pain or back issues....

Those of you that are struggling with your own pain, I hope this helps. I hope you understand you're not alone and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like we can all work to better days, a better mind set and being grateful for what we have.

Censorship is a special word especially at this time in the world. Personally I feel like our countries have been built on freedom of speech and being able to say what you think is right.

Unfortunately, that right seems to be more and more in danger. However in this podcast I'm going to argue that in this situation censorship is a good thing.

Here's my main point, is that because of big media like google, Youtube, Facebook, IG, etc. no longer allow you to say what you want. They reduce the algorithms, they suspend accounts without notice, they literally take down posts and videos.....

Most of us know this is happening and it's all happening if and when you say something they don't want you to say. If you go against the narrative or say something that they don't believe in or what they are paid to believe in, then you suffer the consequences.

That being said, there are more and more companies popping up that believe in freedom of speech which I'm excited about. For example many people are going to telegram and away from Facebook which is another messenger app much like Whatsapp. Keep in mind Whatsapp is also owned by Facebook who recently changed their name to Meta.

There is Rumble and Odysee both uncensored video platforms which is also awesome, so more people are going away from all the censorship of Youtube and looking for other options.

What I'm saying here is, all the censorship they are doing, is pushing people away which is a good thing, gives them less of the market share and pushing people towards better options in my opinion.

So don't fear those that are worried about freedom of speech, there are other solutions on the rise. And I strongly encourage you to switch over and support those platforms instead of these highly censored ones.

He began a long journey of learning how to heal himself without drugs or surgery. Along the way, he realized that the best way to rehab the body is to work with its natural healing process instead of against it.

Scott developed MALIN METHOD, a revolutionary way to heal the body naturally and safely. Using scientific research as his guide and real world training as his testing ground, Scott stripped away the long held beliefs of ineffective treatments like ice and prolonged rest and replaced them with scientifically backed healing strategies that quickly and effectively reduce swelling, bruising and pain. MALIN METHOD also dramatically increases strength, stability and healthy range of motion, which significantly reduces the risk of future injury.

MALIN METHOD has taught over 100,000 people of all ages how to rehabilitate their bodies and get out pain naturally and safely. Scott's system is super easy to do at home and does not require any equipment.

Isn't it crazy that we're even talking about this? But I mean how many times have we said that to ourselves?

In this clip I'm going to talk about some very difficult subjects. Most in which people shy away from.

They are too hard to think about, too hard to understand, even fathom.

Why could this be happening, who in their right mind would actually want this?

Is this actually even possible?

I'm also going to bring on some experts in their own rights to talk about their experiences, what has happened to them, how they see this all unfolding and what's happening right in front of our own eyes.

All in which most turn a blind eye too. We'd prefer to think everything is fine, everything will go back to 'normal' and nothing bad will happen to any of us.

This show will upset a lot of people I'm sure. But I'm not here to argue or debate. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, every one should have the right to voice the own opinion - something that the powers to be are trying very hard to take away.

And finally we should all have the right to our own choices over our own bodies, again which is being harder and harder to do in this world of madness.

Agree or disagree, I'm entitled to my own voice, just as you are.

Regardless, thank you for listening, and thank you for respecting my opinion whether you agree or not.

It's back to school time which means it's time to get back on track!

As a nutrition and fitness company most people think our busiest time of year is in Jan, which isn't the case.

Our busiest time of year is Sept. And that's because of the long summers of BBQ, not working and eating whatever we like.

No judgement here, that's just how it works. Then when the kids go back to school, regular work hours come about and everyone is looking to get back into their routines, we hear from most sharing how little they did over the summer.

So it's time to get back on track and all that starts with a plan.

We need to decide what is that we want, then we plan on how we're going to do that.

Planning workouts is essential to getting back on track. And meal planning, along with grocery shopping, knowing what meals you're going to plan in advance is all so important.

If you need some help planning workouts and meals we can certainly help with this.

If you don't have a professional helping, there's nothing wrong with making your own.

It's the time it takes that deter most people from doing it themselves. So if you're not going to do it yourself or if you don't have time to do it, it would be a good idea to find a trusted professional.

Christal grew up in a small farming community in Southern Saskatchewan. As an avid athlete with her share of injuries, she had little assistance from the medical profession available to her in her small town so decided to study Athletic Therapy at Mount Royal College. She wanted not only to understand what was wrong and how to recover but how to prevent injuries in the first place.

Through college she was able to continue with her athletics; both as a competitor and as a therapist. She was a gold medalist Badminton player at MRC and she was able to be on the sidelines of many of her favorite sports (including football, hockey, baseball and volleyball) as well as sports she had little experience with (such as field hockey, basketball and judo) throughout university.

After completing her Athletic Therapy diploma from MRC and her Kinesiology degree at the U of C, she continued to work with hockey in both the Alberta Junior Hockey League, Heritage Junior B Hockey League and the Women’s Western Hockey League. She worked in private practice as an AT until requiring knee surgery (an injury sustained at playing hockey) which introduced her to the world of insurance where she worked for a number of years.

Working as a rehabilitation specialist she recognized a challenge in the insurance and medical fields. There was a group of people in pain for which there is no apparent reason discoverable in today's traditional diagnostic tests or imaging. According to medicine and the insurance world, nothing was wrong with them.

Christal had learned what she could in the insurance world and was anxious to get back into helping people directly in a clinical setting. After losing her mom to Cancer and her grandmother 6 months later, she learned life was just too short not to be doing what you were meant to do. But the question remained on how to help the population with unexplained pain – she needed to find a solution.

After research into various educational options she found osteopathic manual therapy. A method to understand in more detail the anatomy of the human body and how all parts were interrelated. A method to understand WHY people had pain. She started her osteopathic studies in 2006 at the Canadian College of Osteopathy Vancouver Campus (now called the Canadian School of Osteopathy Manual Practice). She returned to private practice in 2007.

Christal graduated after completing her thesis on vestibular disturbances in the post concussed active population. She continues to be a certified Athletic Therapist and has continued post graduate studies in endocranial spasm work, psycho-neuro-endocrine-immunology, emotional work within the fluids, mechanical link, neuro-kinetic therapy, and energetic work through the medicine wheel.

In January 2019 she opened Take Flight Osteopathic Wellness with the goal of bringing hope to people who feared they’d have to live with the pain for the rest of their lives.

Take Flights Mission is To help you, your performance and Life Take Flight.

It always strikes me as odd when you see someone working out like a bodybuilder who doesn't want to be a bodybuilder. If you want to look like a bodybuilder or if you want to compete in a fitness competition, sure you workout a certain way.

But if you want to look lean and strong, you work out differently. Or if you want to increase the strength of your heart, maybe you have heart Dis-Ease in your family. They you don't stand and lift heavy weights, you do more cardio exercises.

More weights and less reps = more mass. Less weight and more reps equal leaner muscles. The you have body weight exercises, yoga, pilates and more!

There's all kinds of different ways to be fit, health and active. Be sure you're choosing the right way that aligns with the body type you're looking for.

Hard gainers is a real thing, and it's a real struggle. Most people don't know about hard gainers because much of the world is surrounded by people trying to lose weight. So what's a hard gainer? It's someone who has trouble keeping weight on, including muscle mass. Particularly important to men, athletes but exclusively. Men and women in all walks of life struggle with being a hard gaining, but again are downplayed by so many trying to lose weight.

So when we talk about the struggles around gaining weight, most people shrug it off or don't think much of it. But it's a real problem. Calling someone 'fat' to an obese person, is no different than calling someone 'scrawny' to a skinny person. It's hurtful and can stay with people their entire lives. In this show we talk about hard gainers, what it's like to be this type of person and what you can do about it.

How to Beat the Heat is something we all consider during the hot summer months...or something we all should consider.

Sun burns are not just detrimental to our health in short term but in longer term as well.

It always surprises me when I see people flaunting their sun burns like it's something to be proud of.

What I'm most proud of is when I get through an entire summer without getting burned, now that's a real challenge!

Pay attention to the time of day you're spending the most of your time outside.

Consider non toxic sunscreen and even wear long sleeves when it's extremely hot outside.

Dr. Aaron Hartman is a Board-Certified Family Medicine Practitioner and clinical researcher who advocates for and practices functional medicine, an integrative approach to conventional and alternative medicine. Aaron guides individuals to restore their health and hope, using science-backed solutions, so they can live the vibrant life they were made for.

Aaron’s own journey with Functional Medicine started with his first daughter, who he and his wife took in as a foster child, then adopted. Due to her cerebral palsy and countless dietary issues, the Hartmans went to specialist after specialist, but even as a physician, Dr. Hartman felt let down and confused. His daughter’s health struggles forced him to confront an uncomfortable realization: Our current healthcare system doesn’t have all the answers. Aaron’s wife, a brilliant--and very stubborn--occupational therapist refused to give up hope. She ultimately pointed him towards functional medicine, and their daughter thrived.

The human body is infinitely complex, and functional medicine caters to this complexity. Dr. Hartman listens to his patients’ whole health stories then helps them apply data-driven solutions to start healing. In short, he looks at clients’ home, environment, diet, daily habits, and health history, and then teaches solutions instead of just treating symptoms.

We no longer are expected to do what others want but it seems to be demanded regardless of what's right for ourselves.

Everyone is in a different situation, everyone has a different story, background and beliefs.

And we should all be able to make our own decisions without external influence.

When it comes to reliability there is two forms I specifically address in this show.

Being reliable for yourself is the first one. So many people put themselves last and never consider running on an empty cup.

The more you have filled the more you can offer to others. But if you aren't reliable, if you never show up for yourself, then you don't have much to give.

It's important to show up for yourself. It could be a workout you are showing up for, it could be meal planning, etc.

Regardless of what it is, you need to show up for yourself. In fact, some people always show up for others but never for themselves.

And then there's the other kind of reliable when it comes to finding those people that are reliable, that are always there when they say they will.

We all know those types of people that are flakey and rarely show up when they say they will.

You know that type of person that says they'll come and everyone takes bets on that person showing up?

Don't be that person. Do what you say and say what you'll do.

It's important on many different levels to be someone that can be counted on to show up when it's expected.

There are tons and tons of Benefits to Cold Water Therapy.

In fact it's been shown beneficial to improve your healthy in numerous different ways.

I've done cold water challenges myself for 10 days, for 30 days, in the middle of summer, even in winter and through research and experience this is what I've found.

Cold water therapy is good to improve circulation, offering your body the ability to better be able to warm and cool itself.

Cold water therapy helps ignite your collagen in your face which could offer less wrinkles.

Considering a 3 min cold shower can improve your circulation, decrease pain caused by inflammation and even wake you up to start your day more efficiently like Tony Robbins.

There are many different forms of cold water therapy

You may consider starting with just 10 seconds. And working your way to a 30 second shower.

Those that are more extreme maybe sit in an ice bath for up to 15 minutes or even try a polar dip!

Again there is many different forms and many different benefits you can experience through cold water therapy.

Saving water may be of interest to you, less dry skin if you live in a dry climate or have hard water.

Regardless of what you think it's certainly worth trying out to see what benefits you may find from Cold Water Therapy.

It's challenging to live positive in chaos. I mean many people feel like the world is upside down, that their lives are. Many people only see chaos so how can we find the positives in a situation like this? Let's talk about it.

We have to understand our environment is either contributing to the chaos or bringing us back into a positive state of mind, positive state of being.

So surrounding yourselves with positive people is essential.

Paying attention to what you're watching, saying and thinking is also helpful.

Creating healthy habits and healthy routines is also important.

Exercise is the #1 way to reduce stress, so creating a healthy workout routine is important.

And food is no different, what we eat creates more stress or less stress.

So having an overall healthy lifestyle lifestyle is a great way to find positivity in chaos.

How to turn your wants into achievements is the burning question. I mean how do we go after what it is we really want, and why?

The very simple answer is motivation. People often tell me 'I lack motivation'. So how do we find this motivation?

How is it we can actually go after what we want and see results?

We need a system, we need accountability, we need to find a way to make it happen.

And throughout this show I explain exactly how you do that.

Decide what it is you want, no one can do this for you. After that you come up with a plan, a coach, some accountability.

Then you move into taking actions steps, rewards and celebrations all the way up until you turn your want into an achievement.

It's a dangerous mindset to be in the quick fix mind frame.

I recently heard someone say, you grow a business as quickly as possible so you call sell it because organic growth takes too long.

This is that instant results mind frame that I'm talking about.

When you're looking for instant you're often disappointed.

In most cases great results take time, effort and patience.

This could be true for fitness goals, nutrition, weight loss, etc.

It doesn't matter much what it is, patience matters. Putting in the work matters.

Being in it for the long haul and understanding these things take time.

Fats are either causing inflammation or preventing inflammation.

Especially when it comes to oils. There are many rancid oils on the shelves that actually cause inflammation.

Which includes trans fats which is more directly your deep fried foods, fries, wings, onion rings, etc.

It would be a very good idea to understand the chronic pain in your body stems from inflammation caused by low quality fats which include trans fat.

For a product to be labeled 'oilive oil' the actual quantity of oilive oil can and is over very low. I'm talking about 2,3 or 4%.

So what's in the rest of the 'olive oil'? Usually cheap, rancid and or low quality oils that act as fillers so the profit margins increase and companies and make more money off each sale.

MCT oil is basically extracted from coconut oil.

Within those extractions there are a number of different oils.

Which include, C6, C8, C10 and C12.

The most beneficial MCT oil is C8 which is Caprylic Acid. This is basically brain fuel. It helps with digestion, it gives you energy and it improves your cognitive function as well.

For the past 25 years, goal achievement and personal development have been Nelson’s passion; but his true obsession was awakened several years ago as he began the development of IGotSmarter.

The principles, philosophies, and accountability intricately built into every aspect of the App have not happened by chance. It is a program comprised of a lifetime of study and determination to succeed not only financially and professionally, but in every area of life.

Nelson’s passion for helping others overcome obstacles in their way came about through the difficult circumstances of his childhood. His story reads like something out of a work of fiction, but it is Nelson’s reality. Rather than using his tragic story as an excuse, he has used it to motivate himself and to help others overcome their own struggles.

One of his favorite quotes is, “Never be ashamed of a scar. It simply means you were stronger than whatever tried to hurt you.” It is his vision to make this world a better place one person and one inspiring goal at a time. He believes goals not only change the current generation, they also change the generations that follow.

I love tea, I always have. But I think I'm more in love with the health benefits than anything else.

Personally I enjoy a nice green tea in the morning. More recently I've been enjoying the combination of green tea and puh er tea because of the unlimited health benefits that combo has to offer.

Tea has been used for thousands of years to help many different issues in health and to improve healing.

Maybe that's what I enjoy most about it.

It's also important to understand there is a proper way to prepare tea which I feel gets lost in the shuffle.

Take green tea for example. You can actually steep it twice for example to get rid of 75% of the caffeine.

You also only want to steep it for around 3 mins, steeping for too long will cause it to be bitter.

And then you don't want to let the green tea to sit too long before you drink it.

I've found the longer it sits the more bitter it gets.

Those are just a few tips to enjoying a cup of green tea.

But tune in and learn and laugh and enjoy more benefits and conversation about tea!

It's important to understand how to read ingredients. We hear all the time how long it takes to grocery shop if you're always reading ingredients.

First of all, it's worth noting that once you start to recognize brand names and where to go in the grocery store, it'll take a much shorter time to go.

But if you look at the first few ingredients that'll give you a good inclination if it's a good product or not.

If the first 3 ingredients have sugar in them, put the product down and move on.

In the product has tons of ingredients, in most cases words that you're not able to read or pronounce. Put the product down and move on.

We should be able to easily understand exactly what's in each product that we're putting in your bodies.

Practice, read, have patience and before long you'll be a pro at reading ingredients!

Sugars all process a differently in our bodies.

We suggest avoiding refined white sugar as much as possible because it is synthetic. This means our bodies recognize it as a toxin and do not know how to process it. It’s stored in our body and leads to weight gain, aches and pains and all kinds of mayhem.

Refined Sugar is very harmful for our health. It’s very addicting which means it can cause withdrawals, headaches and highs and lows in energy levels.

Our bodies can recognize and process Natural occurring sugar like honey, maple syrup and fresh fruit.

This doesn’t mean we should have unlimited amounts of natural sugar. We still need to watch our intake but our bodies will know how to utilize it and it won’t cause nasty health problems.

Let's talk about Why New Years Resolutions Don't Work

In most cases we set goals without having a real plan only because we think we're supposed to. It's the New Year and we heard we're supposed to set goals, so we don't but don't exactly know how.

We need to start with achievable goals first and build a sustainable plan that will last, instead of jumping in with two feet having no idea why or what we're doing.

Working together is important, even if you're used to doing these things on your own. There's a reason this hasn't worked in the past, most likely because you've tried to do it on your own.

Find a community, find a support group and you'll quickly find out how important it is.

Consider other goals as well. In most cases people only set wellness goals, but what about financial for example, what about adventure. Do something you're not used to, think outside the box and you'll be all the better for it!

Even though the holidays is supposed to be the most joyous time of year, it can certainly be the most stressful. So we put together a check list for you to follow, to help you keep your stress levels low at this time of year.

Exercise is the #1 way to reduce stress!

Unfortunately it seems as though exercise is the first to go when we're stressed out. Do yourself a favour, get to exercising to prevent too much stress, and when that stress arrives, don't miss out on any of your workouts.

Breathing Exercises

This is another great way to reduce stress. There are many different ways to practice breathing. The easiest one is, breathe in for a count of 5, hold for a count of 5 and breathe out for a count of 5.

Try this cycle 10 times around and watch that stress melt away!

Reduce Alcohol Consumption

Easier said than done especially during the holidays. We're not saying don't drink at all. What we're saying is, you don't have to over indulge every night. You don't have to have an alcoholic beverage every time you watch a movie, wrap presents (or open them ;)), or every time you visit family.

Many people don't know alcohol contributes to stress, anxiety and depression. So skip the booze blues this year and try a different type of beverage.

Create Healthy Habits

More people than we know create unhealthy habits at this time of year. So why not flip the script and start creating healthy habits. It'll make starting out in the New Year that much easier!

Create healthy habits like some of the exercises on this list to reduce your holiday stress.

Add quality foods to your diet

I know that we'd rather not think about better nutrition at this time of the year. We want the appetizers and pie's and drinks. But we should really consider adding quality foods to our diet.

Quality foods will help reduce stress, they will help heal your body and they'll even put you in a better mood, especially when things are a bit more stressful during the holidays.

On this episode of Exploring Mind and Body we're going to talk about Self Care During the Holidays.

Self care during the holidays is so important. In fact it could be the most important time of the year.

We have appetizers, and family and finances, all in which could stress us out. So we have to continue to take care of ourselves especially at the most stressful time of year.

A. Believe that you're worth it

Believe that you're worth it because you are. You deserve to be strong and healthy all year long, especially at this time of year!

B. Affirmations

We love affirmations as constant reminders of who are, and or who you want to become. Help yourself have that belief in yourself by continually reminding yourself using affirmations.

C. Make a plan

If you fail to plan you plan to fail. Have a workout plan, have a nutrition plan, take all the thinking out of it. Make sure you have a plan that you can stick to and find a professional to do it for you if you're not sure how.

D. Make yourself a priority

Remember that you deserve this. So make yourself a priority. We make everyone else in our lives a priority and we put ourselves last. Put yourself at the top of the list and you'll have more to give.

E. Make time for yourself

We all have the same hours in the day, it's not that we don't have time, it's more so that we don't make the time it takes to get our workouts in, or to meal plan and prep.

Make that time because you deserve it!

Choosing Better Ingredients is a way of life, it really is. Choose better quality isn't just about ingredients, it's what you choose on a regular basis.

Let's take ingredients first. The better ingredients you put in your body, the better your body will feel, the better your body feels the more confidence you'll have. And the more confidence you have the better you'll be able to perform your day to day tasks.

Consider feeling energized, having mental clarity; how about being in more control of your mood and emotions.

It all starts with choosing better, for your body, for your life.

If you choose better quality ingredients, you tend to make better choices in your life.

Choose better to whom you hang out with, choose better to what you do with your personal time, choose a better environment.

Fermented foods is without question, one of the best ways to improve digestion.

Some of my favourite fermented foods include: Kombucha, Sauerkraut, Kimchi and Miso.

I choose to make homemade kombucha but there is some great local businesses that produce their own, which in my opinion would be better than a mass produced product.

If you are purchasing Sauerkraut make sure it's raw and needs to be stored in the fridge.

Kimchi is my favourite of all of these and again I choose to make my own. Pay attention to the store bought kimchi products, many are packed with toxins that won't do your digestive system any good.

And last on my list is Soy products. In most cases I choose to avoid soy. Unless they are fermented. You can find health benefits from both Miso and Tempeh.

All the best in your search for improving your digestion!

It's so important to have an attitude of gratitude. Might sound cliche to some, but show your appreciation on a regular basis for the smallest things will change your entire mindset and outlook on the day.

Try waking up in the morning and thinking of just a few things that you're grateful for. It doesn't matter how small; doing this for a few days and then a few weeks you'll quickly find out how powerful our mind is.

Before long your mind will start to be attracted to positive things in your life. When you're focused on the positive instead of the negative, more things start to open it's arms to you.

You'll find yourself in better relationships, a healthier environment; you'll create more abundance in your life.

All by starting with an attitude of gratitude. Stop complaining, avoid those people that are always in that mind frame, create your own positivity and let the rest take over.

It's so important to understand what we put on our body ultimately goes in our bodies.

Our skin is our biggest organ and we need to treat it right. The problem is, no one wants to hear this information.

Who wants to spend extra money on products, and have to read all the ingredients each time you buy.

Not many, I mean I certainly don't. But it's necessary to know exactly what goes in your body, what it does to your body and it's affecting our health.

In this show I talk about a few things we should stay away from when it comes to cosmetics or the toxins in your bathroom.

I hope you enjoy the show and I hope it's eye opening to some.

You can find more details in my book called Detoxify Yourself which is what I'm referencing throughout this show.

May times we don't consider what our personal environment is like. We don't consider cleaning it up, or we don't think about why our life feels like it's a disaster.

All the while, our desk is cluttered, our car had garbage on the floor, we don't have dedicated rooms to do anything.

In this show I talk about how to organize our life for success. How to do the little things that'll make a big difference.

What are we surrounding ourselves with, what do we see and hear. We are we hanging out with and how to make a change in our lives.

Few people think about actually finding success, in fact few plan for in. In this show I'd like to argue more people actually plan for failure instead of success. Many people are just trying to get by, or hang on. Instead of actually thriving. What does success look like to you?

How have you planned for it, how will you handle it? What steps have you taken to make sure you don't fall back to the same place that you were before you found success? In this show I bring up a topic that may not be thought of often. I hope it gives you a different perspective on how to hold on to that success and even find more!

Matt Maruca is a researcher, entrepreneur, and educator of the field of photobiology, mitochondria, and optimal human health. He is the Founder of Ra Optics, a company that makes products to help people minimize the negative sides of our modern technologies and lifestyle so that they can fully enjoy their lives.

Matt’s passion for enlightening others came out of his own experience with health issues as a child. Since suffering from health issues as a child, he has since tested many allopathic drugs, “alternative” treatments, and diets, ultimately coming to find that the science of mitochondrial medicine is the first to have clearly proven that the cause of all “chronic” disease is mitochondrial dysfunction, the first cause of which is artificial light frequencies altering biologic cycles.

He is currently focused on research in the field of photobiology, the scientific study of the beneficial and harmful interactions of light on living organisms.

I'm an award-winning author, speaker, teacher, technologist, and feminist. My long-time practice of meditation and mindfulness informs my view of the mixed-up roles of men and women.

There are many paths to transformation and change. One of the most critical changes is for people who identify as females to understand and live their vast, core power. People who identify as men must reawaken and revive their innate ability to imbue profound, resonant love into their lives and world. I teach meditation and mindfulness to help people log into these core qualities.

I’ve authored three books:

- The Power of the Loving Man (to be released on March 17, 2020)

- Women, Meditation, and Power

- American Buddhist Rebel: The Story of Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz (winner of four literary awards; U.S. Best Books--2, The Eric Hoffer Award, and the Benjamin Franklin Award)

Additional book and audiobook projects are underway. Through my company, Skye Pearl, I focus on creating truthful and powerful global communications through various forms of media.

I especially want to reach out to:

- Women and men who desire to learn more about meditation,

- Parents who want to raise sons who respect women and girls who respect themselves, and

- Young, college-age women who are ready to come in to and claim their power.

I am a Director of The Frederick P. Lenz Foundation for American Buddhism. I lead the grant category titled “Women in Buddhism.” Over the past decade, we’ve awarded grants to over 150 Buddhist organizations, most of whom are involved in social movements including teaching meditation and mindfulness at schools, prisons, military veteran facilities, homeless shelters, hospitals, city streets, and youth organizations.

I began my career as a freelance journalist and soon segued into Hollywood public relations, landing A-list clients in a number of entertainment sectors. Intrigued by the field of computer science, I left public relations in the 90s to take in-depth training in computer science. I was soon managing multi-million dollar IT projects for top Wall Street firms. Throughout my working life, I have taught and practiced meditation and mindfulness and observed first-hand the urgent need for upending gender norms to achieve world balance.

DiVecchio has made media headlines such as Good Morning America, The New York Post, Men’s Health and Men’s Fitness for helping his client win the largest weight loss prop bet to date of $1.2 million dollars. This professional poker player shed seventy pounds after his high stakes poker buddies bet him $1.2 million to get from 33% body to below 10% body fat in six months. Chris has also been featured on KTLA Morning News to talk about his book The 5x2 Method Revealing the Power of Your Senses.

Chris DiVecchio brings an innovative approach to health and fitness with a unique blend of self-development transformation training. With over 20 years of experience, DiVecchio has trained everyone from athletes to models to people just trying to find time to fit in a workout. The majority of his clientele consists of high-level executives who have spent their lives building their wealth and success at the expense of their health and wellness and are now truly dedicated to balancing both.

As a fitness trainer and lifestyle specialist, Chris understands the importance of maintaining that balance which is why his programs are custom-designed to integrate into each individual’s lifestyle.  For many, it can often feel like an interruption.  DiVecchio believes that fitness and lifestyle do not need to live separately which is why he works intently with each client to customize a program that brings these two worlds together seamlessly and with sustainability. Between work, marriage, kids and social activities, it’s easy for people to get lost and wake up one day wondering what happened? When did I stop caring about my health?

DiVecchio’s philosophy of 1 v.s. 23 suggests that the 1 hour a day you workout is important but it’s the choices you make with the other 23 hours of your day that have a much greater impact on the quality of your overall health and happiness. He uses a three-fold approach that focuses on nutrition, training and vitamin supplementation to target what he calls preventative health & wellness.  The key component of his program is accountability coaching. He takes the time to properly educate each client while honing their skills with time management and stress management to show just how easy it is to eliminate the excuses and get results.

My name is Kyle Flynn, I am the Owner of The Blueprint LA which is a Group Training Facility built on Culture, Community and Connection. I was born and raised in the City of Torrance and am the middle child of 3 boys. Growing up I participated in every sport under the sun and loved to compete. I was never a good student so I focused my energy on sports, being active and escaping from the classroom.

When I was in High School I excelled in Football and ended up earning a Scholarship to the University of Arizona State to play for the Sun Devils. Unfortunately, I found myself in some trouble and ended up going to LA Harbor College to play Football at the Junior College level. After a year and a half at Harbor College I was able to earn a scholarship to play Football at San Jose State University to play for the Spartans.

My Training Career started after I was finished in San Jose and moved home. I came home and was dead broke, found a local gym and asked if I could start training there. At the time I was living out of a 1983 Chevy Blazer and didn't have 2 nickels to rub together. I spent many nights sleeping in my car and eating off the Taco Bell Dollar Menu with the Tip money I earned from giving away Free Personal Training sessions to get my name out into the Community.

I slowly caught some momentum and started to realize more and more that my purpose in life was to empower other people and connect them to their passion and purpose through fitness. I grew my Personal Training business into a group training business over the course of 3 years and decided it was a good idea to open up a Training Facility. In 2015 The Blueprint LA was established and I was officially a business owner with zero plan, zero experience and zero guidance. It was the best decision I have ever made.

We struggled tremendously our first 2 years and I contemplated closing our doors because we only had 7 members and I was losing a lot of money every month. Instead of throwing in the towel I decided to buy out my partner and go all in. Second best decision I have made.

Over the past 3 years we have transformed hundreds of peoples lives and provided this community with a sanctuary of Empowerment, Passion and Positivity. Over the past year we have expanded from 3000 to 9000sq ft and are training a community of 350 people. I am planning to start hosting workshops for Gym Owners/Trainers that are looking to get in this space that need a guide. During my years of struggle it wasn't until I reached out for help that I saw the light.

It’s not easy to talk about Change, most people don’t want to hear anything about it at all. No one said embracing change is easy. It can be a challenge at the best of times. But there are so many benefits to change, if we’d only accept what new changes has to offer.

First of all it’s worth noting that most resistance to change is centered around fear. We fear the unknown which is mostly why we don’t want to deal with change. As creatures of habit we like consistency in our lives. It’s much easier to deal with things we know are going to happen in day to day life.

Once we get passed the fear of change we then can look at the spice of life which is variety! Trying new things, having an open mind, will show us new results and growth in our life in many different areas.

There’s a couple things we should know about our muscles when it comes to muscle memory, recovery and seeing results. Muscle memory is when our muscles conform to over and over repetition. If we do enough reps of something or do something enough times our body will do it without thinking about it.

When it comes to muscle confusion we want to do keep our body guessing and avoiding this particular muscle memory so we can continue to see results.

To avoid plateau's which means we aren’t seeing results anymore we need to continue to change up workouts, try new things, new exercises and movements. We can also increase reps and decrease weight, or reduce reps and increase weight.

There’s many things we can do to create muscle confusion and changing up workouts by doing just that. Keeping changing it up so you can continue to see results!

The 4 Agreements is one of my favourite books. It offers incredibly life lessons that we could all use to live by that will without question improve our quality of life.

In this episode Drew shares his perspective on each agreement and how they've changed his life for the better in different ways.

Starting with the first agreement: Be Impeccable with your word. It's just want you say but what you think about yourself and others.

Agreement number 2: Don't take anything personally. A difficult task without question but one that can be improved on over time and practice.

The Third agreement is, don't make any assumption. We have no idea what other people are going through in their lives. It's always a good idea to avoid making assumptions.

And finally the fourth agreement: Always do your best. Without question, how you do one thing is how you do everything. So strive to do your best no matter what it is that you're doing.
