I can't say I ever understood going through the motions, I always figured if you're going to do, you may as well do it well. I think about all the things we do half way or even multitasking (which is another myth), and wonder why not do it 100% if you're going to do it at all?

In this show I talk about the benefits of going full tilt and avoiding going through the motions. What I've found when putting all the effort in I could possibly muster and what I've found the odd time when I don't.

I've also share some experiences working with others when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle and if you want to see results there really is no other way.

I understand we an automatic knee jerk reaction when it comes to the word failure but when you think about it and if we break it down, we can realize failure is a good thing. In fact as many of us know, without failure there is no success. Which doesn't mean we still don't fear it.

In this show I talk about how we need failure to succeed in the gym. Why we have to fail if we want to find success with our health and fitness goals. I hope this show helps you understand failure helps us push past our limits, it helps us find out what those limits are, how to push past our comfort zone (and find out what it is).

Show Notes:

  • pushing past your comfort zone
  • failure is the only way to see results
  • failure is our friend, not an enemy
  • trying new things will help you get better at both the new things and past things
  • push past your limits
  • a small amount of failure should encourage you to succeed
  • if you never fail how will you get better?

Pre workout nutrition comes up quite a bit, truthfully I stay away from this question because it can become quite complicated. Depending on your goals, your sport time of day you're working out, how long your workout, etc all play a vital role in what type of nutrition you should be consuming before a workout.

In this show I go over the very basics of what you should be having nutrition wise before a meal. Understand that this could vary depending on where you're at with your fitness routine but make no mistake about it, nutrition before a workout is very important when considering optimal health and getting the most out of a workout.

Show Notes:

  • why I don't believe in carb loading (for pretty much any sport, activity or workout)
  • the importance of consuming balanced meals
  • how fats are slow burning and fuel your works
  • complex carbohydrates are also slow burning and should be consumed before a workout
  • look for light and easy meals to digest before a workout. An example of this would be: a quinoa salad, with avocado, and chick peas (or chicken breast)
  • snack meals before a workout would include - avocado and salsa, peanut butter and banana
  • stay away from low quality protein supplements before a workout
  • I highly recommend Complete Truth Protein supplement before a workout

Louise Landry is nothing short of inspirations as we talk about how she will accept no limitations. At age 56, a stroke survivor and more active than people half her age, Louise continues to push her limits and inspire those around her.

Louise has been a part of Monthly Membership since is started over a year ago (at the time of this post/recording) and has been with us for whole food detoxes before hand. Along with workouts throughout the week, weekly yoga and NIA classes Louise stays active all the time.

As a stroke survivor and limitations in eye sight and her left arm Louise doesn't let anything hold her back, in fact you might say she does more than the average person regardless of what limitation might be put in front of her.

Dorothy and I traveled to Lethbridge to run with Louise for her first 5K after training for only 4 months. She'll tell you herself she doesn't love running, but I think the challenge is what keeps her going. She actually signed up for another 5k that she hopes to run in the winter to raise money for the food bank.

In this interview I asked Louise if she had any advice for someone that might say they are too old to set a new goal or go after something that might interest them. She said, 'give it a shot, there's always a way around any limitation you may seem to have. Take it slow, schedule your workouts in and work progressively toward your goals'.

Truly an inspiration. Thank you for all that you do Louise, we couldn't be happier we found you.

There are so many benefits to working out at home instead of the gym. I hear complains about traffic to and from the gym, lack of time to workout, the extra costs of gym fees and more. So I thought, why not write down some tips on why workout at home instead of the gym.

5 Reasons to Workout at Home

More efficient workouts

Gyms were meant for body builders, from squat racks to isolation machines. If you're not a body builder and you aren't injured, you can get a whole lot more out of your workout by doing more functional movements that are efficient and will get you the results you're looking for.

Save Time

There is driving time, there is traffic, there is even waiting in line to check in. Avoid all that by working out at home.

Save Money

Gyms fees, money for gas, possibly parking fees. Course there are hidden fees, even cancellation fees. New shoes, gym clothes and more. It seems like there is always a reason to spend more money when you are working out at a gym. Workout at home and by pass all those extra fees.

Waiting for Equipment

This goes along with saving time. It seems like especially when you're in a rush there is always someone on the machine you want. There's a good chance no one is working out in the same area you are when you're at home.

Avoid the Creepy Guy

We all know what it's like to be watched by the creepy guy. He's likely asked you for your phone number or is thinking about it as he engages in awkward conversation while you're trying to get your workout in.
